Similar to other ASEAN countries, the Malaysian population also has its own number of online shoppers and internet users. As we move onto the post pandemic, many industries still owe it to the outbreak that happened 2 years ago. The effects of confining people at home resulted in the increase of online shoppers and have made the e-commerce and logistics transformational for the country.

The sudden growth of online purchase paved the way for the faster growth of e-commerce in Malaysia. While many say that the country’s digital adoption rate is slow, many disagree and instead claim that it is in the sector of digital payments where adoption rates are slow in spite of the many options when going cashless. And though the internet penetration rate in the country is high, the online presence amongst brands in Malaysia is one of the major challenges.

With Malaysia’s abrupt increase in internet traffic and penetration, stringing it with the age demographic that further drives the stability of e-commerce in the country it is safe to say that the goal of having the country as SEA’s e-commerce hub is very likely.
